Makeup and Skincare Haul May 2023
Welcome to my monthly makeup and skincare haul series. Every month I will be journaling what products I bought in the past month, including makeup, skincare, and bath or body products. I will go through why I decided to buy these products in case you were just as curious about them. Please comment down below if you would like to see swatches or more in depth reviews. I will start showcasing the makeup in my get ready with me posts as I try out my new purchases.
Makeup and Skincare Haul May 2023
I made an Ulta order as they had a $10 off over $50 orders, as well as a buy one get one 50% L’Oreal products. I figured I might as well grab the Colourpop Stone Cold Fox Mega Palette since at the time it had not been restocked on the Colourpop website. I have been slowly collecting all the Colourpop Mega Palettes starting last year, and so I thought it was a good opportunity to get it. The L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer is a decent dupe to my Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. For only $15.99 it might not be as glowy as Charlotte Tilbury, but you can’t beat that price for something that will give you a similar effect. I usually use this when I’m wearing minimal foundation or bb cream. I also picked up the L’Oreal Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation. My first time trying a serum foundation was this foundation last year and for my skin it worked really well. I am in my late 30s so I guess the “age perfect” part of the name really works. This kicked off an urge to try other serum foundations so I now have the Saie Glowy Super Skin as well as other glowy type foundations from Kbeauty brands, but the L’Oreal one works pretty well while being cheaper.
This Olive Young haul was made because I saw that Muzigae Mansion had released another palette named Always, this time a neutral version. I have the other two palettes previously released, so I basically had to add it to the collection. While on the site I noticed the 2023 spring Dasique release of their eyeshadow palette Berry Smoothie. Unfortunately it seems as this item has already been taken off the site, but I was able to find it on Amazon. I have added a link below for easy purchasing. *I earn a commission for purchases made from the link below* Berry Smoothie is a cool tone pink palette with a new take on the shade layout. please check my previous post for a more in depth review of Berry Smoothie. I also happened to see that Laniege had released a new version of their Neo Foundation. I have the Neo Foundation Matte formula, so I decided to buy the Neo Foundation Glow for comparison. True to its name, it is the glowy and dewy version of the matte formula. I would prefer to wear this during summer months or if you have a dry skin type. The Espoir Peach Skin Fitting Base looked interesting to me so I grabbed that too. It is a makeup base that can be used as a first layer of your foundation, or by itself with your daily sunscreen. It has SPF50+ and brightens your skin to a peach tone without being too heavy or thick. I use this for those “no makeup” makeup days where I don’t want to actually put on foundation.
The Aurora Struck Mega Palette from Colourpop finally restocked, so I made an order just for it. Usually I would wait for a sale as Colourpop has them frequently throughout the year. But I didn’t know if it would sell out again, as I already waited around 6 months for it to become available. This palette was immensely popular as fully cool tone shades in an eyeshadow palette is on the rare side. On the opposite spectrum, Colourpop just released their newest mega palette, Smokin’ Hot, which is a palette of all warm tones.
Well, if I had known the Winnie the Pooh collection would be restocked, I would have waited an extra week to make my Coloupop order instead. The Sweet as Can Bee palette and Hunny Pot Lip Care Kit can be bought as a set, which is what I did, or purchased individually. The Hunny Pot Lip Care Kit was hugely popular when it was first released, and it’s no surprise that it’s sold out again. The little honey wands included with the honey pots are very cute, although a bit impractical. We all know everyone is just sticking their fingers into the containers. The Sweet as Can Bee palette doesn’t disappoint with the illustrated packaging. I think the color story of the shades fit really well with the storybook and watercolor aesthetic of Winnie the Pooh.
I also added the Just Rosy Super Shock Blush from the Snow White collection as I really like the super shock formula. I have steadily been adding the super shock shadows and blushes to my makeup collection any time there is a new release. This berry shade is probably a bit dark for my skin tone but super shock blushes are easy to blend out for a lighter sheer color. I use Just Rosy and Etude LUVISTRUE palette for this purple smokey eye makeup tutorial.
This is my haul I made from the Etude House website. I usually wait to see if any new releases show up on Olive Young, but some special collections don’t end up on there at all. I had my eye on the LUVISTRUE and Retro Street Play Color Eyes palettes, but they also had a good deal on the Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream. They were selling a duo set of the bigger version of the cream, and it seemed like something I could try for my red cheeks. As I’ve gotten older I seem to get some redness there so I wanted to try this cream to see if it would reduce the irritation on my skin. However, it seems they are not selling the set on the Etude House website, and the single cream jar is currently sold out. I was able to find it on Amazon if anyone was interested in purchasing it there. *I earn a commission for purchases made from the link below* I didn’t know Etude House had a serum version of their Double Lasting Foundation, so I picked that up as well. Serum foundations seem to do better for my combination skin type so I’ve trying out a few different brands. The Moisturizing Cleansing Oil was a freebie that came with my purchase and would be handy to bring along for trips as it is a travel friendly size.
LUVISTRUE is a 9 pan eyeshadow palette featuring cool tone lilacs. The collection also features a lilac blush Love is Cheek and three new colors of Etude House Fixing Tints. You can buy the whole collection in a set on their website. However, I only opted to buy the eyeshadow palette and blush. I think that the clear packaging is very on trend and modern. I also just have a problem with resisting purple blushes.

The Etude House Retro Street Play Color Eyes is a 9 pan eyeshadow palette inspired by Y2K retro aesthetics. The colors are meant to mimic faded polaroid tones. You can use the shades for your eye looks or use the coral shades as a blush. I have swatched some of these shades and while the corals look like they would be bright, they are actually on the subtle side and show up as a soft color. I thought the packaging for the palette was creative too, as you have to slide out the palette from the box sleeve. And the clear packaging is similar to clear cd cases back in the day. I created a cute everyday neutral eye look using this palette.
Kara Beauty had a 30% off sitewide sale during Memorial Day week and I had been eying these palettes and lip glosses for a bit. Mind Bloom and Viridescent Creative Beauty Palettes are inspired by green witches and their connection to the natural world. Many of the shade names are references to the earth, healing, and meditation. And of course, beautifully illustrated makeup packaging. These fun Level Up Nourishing Lip Glosses include rose hip oil in the ingredients, which explains why I like the formulas so much. They aren’t as sticky as your usual lip glosses while having fun holographic glitter in various pink and coral bases. I bought one of each in Holo Glam, NPC, and Next Gen.
Viridescent and Mind Bloom palettes both have warm earthy tones but Viridescent has muted green shades while Mind Bloom has warm browns and oranges.
For the skincare and body product portion of this Olive Young haul, I focused on interesting things to try and resupplying my stash. These Mom’s Bath Recipe Body Peeling Pads looked like they would be fun to try. I’ve not yet been to a Korean spa, but I imagine these pads are supposed to mimic the type of body scrub you would get. This is the strong version of these pads but they have a normal and trouble care version too. This pack is currently sold out on Olive Young, but Amazon has them too. I have added the Amazon link down below. *I earn a commission for purchases made from the link below*
How cute is this headband with the Niniz dinosaur? This Aromatica Rosemary Scalp Scaling Shampoo set comes with a sticker sheet and headband of Jordy, a dinosaur character that is a part of Kakao Friends. And yes I absolutely bought this just for the headband, extra shampoo is always nice.
This Healingbird Ultra Protein No Wash Ampoule Treatment is a best seller in Korea for hair care. Spray it on your damp hair after showering and it will help restore damaged hair and tame frizz. All that sounds good to me as I bleached my hair for a year trying to get that fun purple kpop hair. I now have to add hair oil constantly in order to keep the dryness at bay. This set also includes a mini bottle of argan hair oil.
This is a set of two Round Lab Pine Tree Soothing Cica Ampoule. It is supposed to be good for soothing rough, dry, and sensitive skin. It has moisturizing and skin soothing effects while not exacerbating skin that is acne prone. I am always trying out new skincare and ones with cica in the ingredient list has recently become popular.
I really love the Hanyul Pure Artemisia Calming Water Fluid but I believe it is being discontinued. As my bottle is getting low, I decided to try the Hanyul Pure Artemisia Calming Water Cream in its place. It is thicker than the water fluid version but still has the soothing properties for sensitive skin. This set comes with a refill pack and cotton pads for application.
Finally we have the Abib Hearleaf Spot Pad Calming Touch, another popular skincare item in Korea. Each cotton round pad is soaked in an essence that can be placed anywhere on your face. This formula is also good for sensitive and rough skin. I must have been really thinking about my red cheeks when making this order. This set comes with an 80 pad refill and tweezers to grab each pad from the jar.
My Olive Young order also came with free gifts with purchase. A Hanyul 4 pack face mask and a sample size of the new Giverny Milchak Foundation.
My makeup portion of this haul consisted of 6 blushes, the Piccasso 2Way Spatula Set, and the Piccasso Mini Mixing Palette & Mirror. I became interested in trying out the spatula technique of applying foundation after watching some Korean Youtubers do it. The idea is that by using a spatula to apply the foundation on your face, it will save on your foundation products. Typically some product is usually lost when using makeup brushes or sponges. The dip at the end of the spatula is meant for scooping out products from jars or containers. They also included two mini sponges to blot in your foundation and a makeup bag. The mixing palette is a good buy for me as I already mix my matte foundations with my Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter or other glowy bases. Mixing things on the back of your hand is easier but probably not as sanitary. The palette also comes in pink or red covers.
Two of the blushes I bought were the new Muzigae Mansion Fitting Blushes in Odd and Ecstasy. How cool are these blush designs? The lids turn to reveal the product inside while half the triangle is completely open. The chrome designs looks very lux but it is actually all plastic. But no one can really tell from far away anyway. Ecstasy is a bright coral blush and of course I had to pick Odd for my love of purple blushes.
2023 is truly the year of the blushes. These Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek contain a cream blush and a powder blush and are meant to layer on together in different combinations. It comes with a handy tutorial sheet to give you an idea on how to layer the blushes together. The top shade is the cream while the bottom layer is the powder. I think the idea is also that adding the cream blush first will make your powder blush last longer while adding more color. There’s something really elegant about the color choices, and again I can’t resist the purple blush. I have a more in depth review of the Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek after using the shade Allure in the Air for a pink monochromatic makeup look.
Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek Allure in the Air: An elegant toned-down rose beige color with a deep muted beige.
Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek New Symphony: Lively soft peach and pink-shaded warm coral color.
Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek Dreamlike: A clear silver lavender, subtle light pink color.
Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek Refinement: Calm deep mauve, dusty pink color.
I always have to get Clionadh multichromes whenever they are newly released. You just never know if they will sell out or how long a restock would take. This is the Clionadh Deep Sea Treasures Palette with 8 pans of multichromes in various formulas. There is a mix of brighter and “neutral” mulitchromes inspired by the ocean and jewels you might find in a shipwreck. I have yet to play with these shadows but I can’t wait to dig into them.
Finally we have my Jouer Cosmetics haul. I’ve been eyeing the Bare Rose Collection for a while and the 30% off Memorial sale was the perfect opportunity to purchase it. I liked the Blush & Bloom tint I bought last year, so I picked up two other shades. And the French Riviera palette was on sale so why not. The makeup bag and matte lip balm were free with my purchase.
I got the Blush & Bloom Cheek + Lip Duos in Uplift and Inspire. Uplift has a soft peach and pink shade, while Inspire has a bright coral and poppy. I only use these as blushes as the formula seems a bit too dry for my lip type.
I only really wanted the Blush & Bloom Stick in this Bare Rose Collection. I’ve basically been collecting most of the shades as I feel they are good cream blushes that last through the day. This set also includes a Long Wear Cream Lip Liner and Essential Lip Enhancer Shine Balm in the same muted rose color. I will be giving the lip liner and lip balm to my mother instead as she actually uses these types of lip products.
The French Riviera Palette is inspired by the beach resorts along the French Riviera and contains matte, shimmer, and foil shades. I like that the color story reminds me of watercolors and is reminiscent of my Kailav, formerly Musee, water color inspired palettes. This is an older palette but I’m hoping that Jouer will release more eyeshadow palettes with interesting color stories like this.
I do still have some makeup products that I ordered in May that have not been delivered yet. i will add those to my June haul instead, but will be showcasing them during June so you won’t have to wait to see what other new products I’ve bought. As always, if you would like to see a more in depth review or swatches, please comment down below.
