Easy Everyday Makeup With This New Retro Inspired Palette
This new palette by Etude House called Retro Street is a good palette for beginners to create easy and simple neutral makeup looks. The palette looks like it get dark with the shades, but actually the eyeshadows will blend out into a lighter soft look. The palette was inspired by the colors you would see in old polaroid photos, so there is mostly cool browns to warm orange shades. I also used a multichrome highlighter on the eyes for a more sparkly pop of interest.

I used the darkest brown matte shade in the palette on the outer lid to add some depth. You can see from the swatches that the colors don’t get very dark. I then applied the orange shimmer on the inner lid, then the middle cool tones brown shimmer on the outer lid over the matte. I was surprised how soft the look ended up being, so I wanted a little more extra emphasis on the eye. I used Kaleidos Mars Melter Space Age Highlighter all over the outer lid, and swept it up into the temples. Mars Melter has a brown caramel base with a red and peach multichrome glitter flip. I thought that would fit with the warm orange and brown of the other eyeshadow colors.
Makeup Tips
Also, a fun makeup tip is to try using your more colorful highlighters as eyeshadows. Highlighters, especially ones that are multipchrome or glitter based, can be difficult to look natural on the cheeks depending on your skin tone. But it’s easier to incorporate these kind of highlighters as eyeshadows instead.
Complementary Makeup for a Neutral Eyeshadow Look
Sticking to the theme of neutral everyday makeup, I used Etude House Sweet Layer Blusher in Vanilla from the Loacker collection. Vanilla is a light coral beige shade that blends out for a natural flush on light skin tones. This collection was a limited release and seems to be discontinued from official shopping websites, but you might be able to find it on ebay.
As the rest of the makeup was on the neutral side, I decided on a bolder lip. Colourpop Just a Tint in Treasure Island is a dark berry lip tint that sheers out on the lips. The formula is more like a balm that still feels fairly hydrating. This particular shade seems to be discontinued but Colourpop makes other Just a Tints that are fairly similar. For perfume I used Replica Bubble Bath which has a clean and fresh base reminiscent to soap bubbles, with notes of rose and coconut.
From this angle of the close up eye look, you can see the flecks of peach and magenta from the Mars Melter Space Age Highlighter.
Makeup Swatches
You can see here from the makeup swatches how light the Etude House Retro Street eyeshadows are in real life. The second photo is filtered to bring out the colors of the swatches more and make the glitter from the eyeshadows stand out. I can see this eyeshadow palette as a favorite for anyone who likes to do daily “no makeup” makeup type looks. I bought this palette last month from the Etude House website, you can see my monthly makeup haul for May 2023.
