Bronze Shimmer Eyeshadow Look: The Latte Makeup Trend on TikTok
The Newest Beauty Trend on TikTok: Latte Makeup Looks
Latte makeup is the current new beauty trend going viral on TikTok. This summer look is characterized by its use of warm, neutral tones that resemble the color of a latte. The main points of this type of look is to achieve an effortless sun kissed style of makeup, like you spent a day at the beach and returned a bronze goddess. To mimic TikTok's latest beauty trend, you only need a few makeup products in shades of caramel brown to create the monochromatic latte makeup look.
How to Create the Latte Makeup Look
Start with a hydrating primer or skincare routine. The latte makeup trend relies on having a fresh makeup base with liquid or cream foundation textures instead of powders. You want a healthy dewy glow and to correct any dryness in your skin texture. Always remember to use sunblock as part of your regular skincare routine. When I wear makeup I usually use a tone up sunblock such as peripera Milk Blur Tone-up Cream or espoir Peach Skin Fitting Base.
Apply a light layer of liquid foundation, bb cream, or tinted moisturizer. Essentially, you are aiming for the "no makeup" makeup base where minimal coverage is the key. If you are worried about too much oil build up through out the day, add a light layer of translucent powder all over the face or your T-zone.
Use a warm bronzer for contour instead of a cool tone brown. A cream bronzer or liquid bronzer is easier to blend into the skin for that natural makeup look, but a powder bronzer can be also be used. You do not need to specifically contour for a sculpted look, rather you want a warm and bronzy tone all over the skin. Think sun lit beach vibes. You can even just use a bronzer as your blush for an even more monochromatic look.
Fluff up your eyebrows for natural looking brows. Keep the brow definition to a minimum by not over lining your brow shape.
For your eyeshadow look, find matte shades with caramel, amber, or tan tones that lean towards a yellow base. Blend this shade all over your eyelid for a smokey effect, including the inner corners. You want a blown out effect. You can add a bronze shimmer or glitter over the eyelids to contrast with your smokey eye. Another option is to use a metallic eyeshadow stick all over the lids and smoke it out. As long as you have a dark brown eyeshadow in amber tones you have created the latte makeup look.
Avoid black eyeliner. A smokey dark brown eyeliner works best. You can also smoke out your lower lash line.
If you would like to add some color as blush, choose nude pinks or oranges. Blend your blush into your bronzer and bring it up towards the temple area if that fits your face shape. Do not over highlight your cheekbone area. Instead, choose a highlighter in caramel tones that will blend into your bronzer shade for an effortless glow.
Apply mascara only to your upper lash line. Keep the lower lash line free of mascara for a cat eye effect.
Finish the look with nude or honey lipstick shades. Matte lipsticks seem to most favored for latte makeup, but lip gloss or lip balms can work just as well.
Bronze Shimmer Eyeshadow Look for Latte Makeup
To attempt the TikTok's viral latte makeup, I chose the shade Cupcake from Melt Cosmetic's Gemini palette. Cupcake is a matte mid tone warm dark brown eyeshadow. I thought it was the perfect shade to fit the latte makeup criteria. I applied Cupcake all over the eyelid, blending out the eyeshadow from the inner eye corner to the outer eye.
You don't have to add any glitter or shimmer to this one and done look, but I always add something sparkly to my eyeshadow looks. I use Garnet Brown from Etude Mini Objet Crystal Chandelier eyeshadow palette as a topper over Cupcake. Garnet Brown is a brown glitter with hints of rose gold. When added over matte brown eyeshadows, it gives that bronze shimmer effect latte makeup is known for.
I chose not to smudge out my lower lids with any eyeshadow as I was going for a daytime look. But that is certainly an option for a more dramatic night time look.
I applied mascara only to my upper eyelashes, while leaving my lower eyelashes clean. Add as many coats of mascara as you need to get dark and thick eyelashes. The emphasis on thicker eyelashes only on the upper eyes creates a feline look.
Complementary Blush and Lip Products for Latte Makeup
Blush: For blush I chose Uplift Me, a soft peach nude from Jouer Cosmetics Blush & Bloom Cheek + Lip Duo. This cream blush blends well with any bronzer shade giving a natural flush to the cheeks.
Lips: I tend to go for glossy lips rather than matte as I have very dry lips, so I went with rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint in Dark Coconut. It is a coconut brown lip tint that can be layered for built up color, will dry down yet stays hydrated.
Perfume: I forgot to include this in my picture, but I used Island Bloom from Skylar, the June 2023 perfume from their monthly Scent Club subscription box. Tying in the theme of beachy and bronzy vibes, Island Bloom is a floral fragrance with scents of coconut water, cardamom, and cedar.
Final Thoughts
To be honest TikTok's new latte makeup trend just feels like an elevated and elegant spin on a neutral everyday makeup. Which I suppose most makeup trends are variations on classic makeup styles. I think it's mostly about recreating the vibe of spending a carefree summer day at the beach, when you might not have the time or ability to do that. Overall, it's a good way to repurpose "boring" neutral shades for the current summer season while keeping with the dewy natural look for your makeup.
